The Hot Plate Project brings people together to cook, serve, and support our neighbors — turning homemade meals into something much bigger.

Serving San Antonio, One Hot Plate at a Time

Good Food | Greater Purpose | Stronger Community

Across San Antonio, many of our neighbors struggle to consistently access fresh, nutritious meals. Behind these numbers are real people - families, seniors, individuals, and children — all working to get through each day with stability and dignity.

At The Hot Plate Project, we believe food is more than nourishment — it’s comfort, connection and care. Through hands-on cooking events, our community comes together to prepare fresh meals that are shared with neighbors across San Antonio. One plate at a time, we turn compassion into action.

In San Antonio, nearly 1 and 6 households faces food insecurity. Together, we can help change that.

How We Serve

Through nourishing meals, strong partnerships, and volunteer action, we turn compassion into daily impact. The Hot Plate Project unites restaurants, shelters, and neighbors to ensure no one in San Antonio is left hungry.

Who We Are

  • The Hot Plate Project is a grassroots initiative founded by Madeline Bonilla, bringing the San Antonio community together to prepare and serve nourishing meals for local shelters. Powered by partnerships with local restaurants and volunteers, this San Antonio based movement is built on connection, care and action – proving that when a community shows up, no one goes hungry.

  • Our vision is to build a lasting network of restaurants, volunteers, and community partners united by one purpose—ensuring no neighbor goes hungry. We strive to create a San Antonio where nourishment is always available, compassion is always present, and every meal shared strengthens the bonds of community today, tomorrow, and for generations to come.

  • The Hot Plate Project began with a simple but powerful idea — that consistent, community-driven service can transform lives. Rooted in San Antonio, The Hot Plate Project was founded by Madeline Bonilla out of a passion for food, people, and community. What started around the kitchen table as a dream has grown into a movement — bringing together local restaurants, volunteers, and community partners to prepare and package nourishing meals for shelters and neighbors in need. At The Hot Plate Project, we believe a meal is more than just food on a plate. It’s comfort, dignity, and a reminder that someone cares. Every hot plate we serve carries the heart of our mission: to feed not only the body, but the soul of our community. This is more than just a project — it’s a promise. A promise to show that when we come together around food, we create hope, kindness, and strength for our San Antonio community.

Our work goes beyond the plate. We use food as a tool to build connection, restore dignity, and support our community.
